NECKARSTADT IN TIMES OF CORONA | MANNHEIM 2020
The Corona pandemic brought public and private life to a standstill within a few days. Much of what we took for granted has been suspended indefinitely: Visiting offices, schools, restaurants, parks and cultural institutions. Meeting friends, family and colleagues.
This series was created in the period from March 16 – 20 in my district Neckarstadt. Two days before, all events were cancelled and all cultural institutions, restaurants and bars were successively closed. People were asked by the authorities to maintain "social distance" in order to keep the wave of infection as flat as possible. Initially as an appeal, then through concrete measures [sealing off the Neckar meadow, distances at supermarket checkouts etc.]. It feels unreal how quickly this development has taken place. When we look back today to the beginning of the crisis, it seems like another world.

MANNHEIM IN TIMES OF COVID-19 :: EPIDEMIC EPISODES [Teaser]
After the photographic documentation of the first Lockdown week, I tried to capture the developments in Mannheim on film: From the compulsory wearing of masks on public transport to the first lateral thinking demo on the market square to sunny afternoons swimming at Vogelstang Lake. For 3 months I regularly searched for significant motifs and moments. In static shots, one can observe how the urban society goes through partly critical, partly light-hearted epidemic episodes.
